Welcome to the Pocket Radar Blog

by Pocket Radar September 10, 2010

In the past year, many of you have expressed a desire to learn more about developments at Pocket Radar and share feedback about our innovative palm sized speed measurement device. Hence, we have decided to set up a company Blog to serve as an outlet for sharing our news and thoughts, posting stories as well as feedback and experiences from Pocket Radar users.

It has been a very exciting time since we first officially launched the product in January at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show. As a new start-up company, we were honored to be named an Innovation’s Honoree by the Consumer Electronics Association in 2010, and we were swarmed by throngs of national and international media throughout the entire four day show. It was quite an experience and served to validate that we definitely had a hit on our hands — correction, we had a hit in the “palm” of our hand.

Still, my personal favorite was that Pocket Radar was awarded the 2010 “Popular Mechanics Editor’s Choice Award”. Ever since I was a kid, I would read Popular Mechanics magazine and check out all the latest new gadgets and dream of a time when I would be able to invent something that would be so innovative that Popular Mechanics would have no choice, but to feature it. It feels great to accomplish a goal that I have held for that long, and I hope that you enjoy the Pocket Radar as much as we enjoyed inventing it.

It has been over 9 months since we first introduced Pocket Radar to the world, and the press interest is still strong as we get daily calls from media interested in reviewing the product. We also have several new and exciting developments in the works that we look forward to sharing in the near future.

In an effort to stay in tune with our customers, I have been personally answering phone calls and e-mails from customers that have questions or suggestions, as well as those just wanting to share their Pocket Radar experiences with us. It has been a great experience for me to be able to talk to many different users, from all walks of life, each with new and exciting ideas of how they are using Pocket Radar. While the sports applications (baseball, hockey, tennis, golf, racing, etc) are obvious, it is always interesting to learn about the different uses people have found for a palm sized personal speed radar device. From RC model enthusiasts measuring the speed of their remote control boats, cars and planes, to paint ball players looking to fine tune their shot velocity, to homeowners associations looking to slow down neighborhood speeders, nearly every week brings insight into a new use for Pocket Radar.

We have also been spending time meeting with hundreds of amateur and Major League baseball coaches, players and trainers of all ages and experiences and we have also garnered the interest of the nation’s top college softball coaches. Many of them love the product so much they are recommending it to their colleagues in other universities.

One thing that has become very clear over the past 9 months is that Pocket Radar has keyed into people’s inherent fascination with speed. Speed is more than just a number. It is a measurement of accomplishment, of performance, of safety and control. There is so much fascination with speed, that there is an entire channel devoted to it, the Speed Channel.
